I'm thinking about killing 3Cx in its current form. My code, while cool and original and all, is starting to fall apart. It really really really needs to be rewritten from the ground up and I just don't have the time to do it.
So I've been thinking about ditching it for something else. The different apps that I am interested in fall into three catagories - Blogs, WikiWikiWebs
(What is a wikiwikiweb?), and CMSes (and hybrids). Some really cool stuff exists out there, but some of it may be a little overkill for shitty old 3Cx. So, here is what I've been looking at (in no particular order).
- PWP Wiki Processor - This is a nice, simple, no DB required WikiWikiWeb app.
- Nucleus CMS - This is a relatively complete CMS. I sort of like it because the code is rather clean and that it's PHP, so I can hack on it.
- TWiki - I really really love this Wiki. I've been using it at work for our knowledge base/intranet. Tons of plugins, well supported, and Perl/CGI... which makes it ass slow on the 3Cx server.
- Tiki - This is a complete CMS. I see nothing at all missing... and that's what worries me.
- WakkaWiki - Simple PHP-based wiki that seems to have a decent amount of development happening. It's a relatively young project, but looks promising.
- Drupal - I've played with this in the past. I almost brought 3Cx online in Drupal when I moved it from a-and-m.net. It's very feature rich and has quite a large community, but again, everything but the kitchen sink is in there.
I'm always looking for new and interesting CMSes (Content Management System BTW). If you see anything interesting, let me know. If you care, check out the stuff listed above and let me know what you think.
UPDATE (Tue May 13 2003): I'm still thinking about it.
UPDATE (Sun Jun 01 2003): I've decided to stick with what I've got. It's my own creation, so it does exactly what I need/want it to. WTF was I thinking?
UPDATE (Mon Aug 18 2003): OK... So I've changed my mind. Nucleus 2.0 rocks the casbah. I went with it. I like it. It does everthing I need it to and more. The plug-in system is the cat's pajamas.
